Community Service is time volunteered (without compensation) to a non-profit organization or an individual or group in need of assistance.
The commitment is for 160 hours total during your 4 year high school career. Many students fulfill their commitment during summer months. The community service form must be completed, signed by your supervisor, and returned to the magnet office.
SENIORS: all community service forms must be turned into the office by April 1st of your senior year to count towards your medallion.
At graduation, Science Magnet Students are awarded medallions as part of their attire. The following criteria has been established to denote various levels of academic excellence and community service.
GOLD: Successful completion of all Science Magnet course requirements and 160+ hours of community service.
SILVER: Successful completion of all Science Magnet course requirements (community service commitment not fulfilled).
BRONZE: Completion of 160 hours of community service (all Science Magnet course requirements not successfully completed).
